Our laid-back guide to Boothbay’s best casual eats — from The Helm House crew!

When you’re staying at The Helm House, you're just a short walk or drive from some of the coziest, tastiest, and most sip-worthy spots on the coast of Maine. Whether you’re looking to grab a lobster roll and a pint after a long day on the water or just want a cool spot to relax without dressing up, we’ve got you covered.

Here are our favorite casual places to eat, drink, and be merry — Helm House approved.

1. Footbridge Brewery - 25 Granary Way

A favorite of locals and visitors alike, Footbridge Brewery serves small-batch beers with big flavor. Grab a flight and enjoy their cozy taproom or outdoor seating just steps from the harbor. They often have food trucks or pop-up vendors outside — check their social media for updates.

Try: The Green IPA or Goose Summer Ale!

2. Boothbay Lobster Wharf - 97 Atlantic Ave

Nothing beats casual waterfront dining with fresh-from-the-boat lobster. This place is as "Maine" as it gets — order at the counter, find a picnic table by the dock, and watch the fishing boats roll in.

Try: The lobster dinner, clam strips, and local beer on tap

Bonus: Live music on weekends and BYO vibe (yes, really!)

3. The Thistle Inn – Pub Room - 55 Oak St

Don’t be fooled by the historic building — this inn has a cozy pub with a relaxed menu and a great bar. Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere (and the chance of catching live acoustic music).

Try: The fish tacos or duck poutine and a whiskey neat!

4. Pier 1 Pizza -15 Wharf St

Quick, easy, and delicious — this harbor front pizza joint is perfect for families or late-night munchies. Order by the slice or get a full pie, and take it to-go for a dockside picnic.

Try: The BBQ chicken pizza and a whoopie pie for dessert!

5. Mine Oyster - 16 Wharf St

Don’t let the name fool you — yes, there are oysters, but there’s also a full bar, live music, and an upstairs deck with a view that’s hard to beat. It’s a little lively, a little quirky, and totally fun.

Try: A Maine blueberry mojito and a tray of raw oysters or fried scallops!

6. Watershed Tavern at Boothbay Craft Brewery - 301 Adams Pond Rd

A little off the beaten path but well worth it! House-brewed beers, wood-fired pub fare, and an old-world tavern setting make this a favorite for relaxed dinners or afternoon tastings.

Try: The 633 Pale Ale and the beer cheese pretzel!

Bonus: Build Your Own Happy Hour at The Helm House

Sometimes the best seat in town is your own front porch or rooftop deck! Swing by Eventide Specialties or Pinkham’s Gourmet Market and grab wine, charcuterie, or local dips and crackers. Add a bottle of Maine Mead Works or your favorite Boothbay brew, and you’ve got a 5-star happy hour without ever leaving the house.

Final Sips

Boothbay Harbor isn’t just a pretty face — it’s got flavor, fun, and plenty of places to kick back and savor the moment. Whether you're chasing a cold beer, buttery lobster roll, or some mellow live music, there's a bite (and a brew) waiting just around the corner.

From our table to yours — Cheers from The Helm House!
